The Tarot of the Drowning World Deck by Kahn & Selesnick, with Guide Book by Sarah Jude Falkner
Kahn and Selesnick’s new seasonal Tarot deck is here at last! This new cartomantic auguries were photographed in the artists’ gardens in Ghent, New York and Morlaix, Bretagne.
This gorgeous deck is also accompanied by a guidebook to the meanings and mysteries of the Drowning World Tarot as channeled and transcribed by author and Tarot scholar Sarah Falkner. This book is a deep dive into the philosophies that informed the project and includes new interpretations for all the cards of the deck.
Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick, both born in 1964, are a collaborative artist team who work primarily in the fields of photography and installation art. They specialize in fictitious histories set in both the past and future. The artists have participated in over 100 solo and group exhibitions worldwide and have work in over 20 collections including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution. Portfolios of their work have appeared in fine art and photography magazines worldwide. They have lectured extensively at many institutions including Brown University, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Princeton University, and San Francisco Art Institute.
Peregrine Falkner aka Sarah Falkner aka S Jude Falkner aka SJ Falkner—any of which have been used as author/maker names for various projects—is a writer, editor, and interdisciplinary artist active in the occurrent, healing, and visual arts—and frequently in collaboration with individuals, groups, and organizations. Their first novel Animal Sanctuary won the Starcherone Prize for Innovative Fiction in 2011, and that same year they were a MacDowell fellow in residence; they were very active in private practice and community clinics as a NY State licensed healthcare provider in both Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley between 1998 and 2020, and from 2010-2019, they co-produced and hosted a monthly WGXC community radio program and podcast, Roots, Runners, Rhizomes: Radical Health and Healing from the Underground. Beginning in 2018, they became a contributing editor for BATTERY JOURNAL and co-editor (with Jason Zuzga) of OTHER for Fence, and they are a part of the core organizational team for Sowa Rigpa Institute. They currently reside in Finistère.
